
EUGENE L. SCHRAM
DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS, APPLIED SECURITY INNOVATIONS GROUP
Eugene “Gene” Schram is a native of Manilla, Iowa and a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He is married and the proud father of two daughters and one son. He resides in DeSoto, Kansas.
He served as an Infantry Sergeant with the 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969. Following graduation from college, he began his law enforcement career in 1975 as a Deputy State Sheriff with the state of Nebraska. In 1976, he began his Federal law enforcement career as a Secret Service Agent in Chicago, IL. Later assignments with the Secret Service included Tucson, Arizona and the Former President Ford Protective Division in Palm Springs, California.
Among his Secret Service responsibilities were many assignments relating to the physical protection of the President, Vice-President, Foreign Heads of State and Political Candidates. A crucial part of those assignments were the advance security surveys preceding the arrival of a protectee. His experience with conducting site security surveys includes hotels, sports venues, transportation routes, hospitals and many other entities. While in Chicago, he did advance site security surveys for Pope John Paul II's first visit to the United States. While assigned to Tucson, he worked closely with Mexican authorities on law enforcement issues under the Secret Service's responsibility.
In 1983, he joined the newly created U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Organized Crime and Racketeering (OOCR) in Kansas City, Missouri. He led the investigation of numerous complex cases involving labor unions, illegal interaction between union leaders and management and political corruption.
In 1986, he was promoted to Special Agent in Charge of the Kansas City Field Office. As Special Agent in Charge, he was responsible for all OOCR operations in the States of Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota and the Southern Judicial District of Illinois. He was OOCR’S case agent on an arson initiated explosion which killed six Kansas City Firefighters and a political corruption case which resulted in the conviction of the Missouri Speaker of the House. He initiated and directed the first internal office inspection for the OOCR department..
In 1999, he retired from the Department of Labor and was hired by Yellow Corporation as a Regional Security Investigator. He opened a new regional office in Denver, Colorado with responsibility for 18 trucking terminals in 6 mountain states. Among other duties, he completed annual security surveys on all assigned properties and in other Investigator areas as directed. Those surveys led to security enhancement at all facilities. Installation of an access control system led to not only substantial operational savings for Yellow Corporation, but also enhanced the control and monitoring of freight; the control and identification of individuals and vehicles on or attempting access to Yellow's property and increased safety for Yellow Corporation employees.
